GOP Senate Candidate Steve Lonegan Pushes Wife Away During Concession Speech (Video)

Even though he proudly supported the federal government shutdown and had Sarah Palin campaign for him, New Jersey Republican Senate candidate Steve Lonegan lost on Wednesday to Democrat Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker.

During his concession speech, Lonegan pushed his wife's hand away from his shoulder and continued his remarks, notes (1:10 mark on the video below).

According to the New York Daily News, Lonegan lost the special election to Booker 55 to 44 percent.

"Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the message we delivered together with so much energy and so much passion did not win the day," Lonegan said in his speech. "...And I'm hoping God will be with [Booker] in the decisions he makes as he goes into the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C."

He also joked, "Who wants that job anyway?"

Moments later, as his wife tried to massage his left shoulder in a gesture of comfort, Lonegan brushed her aside.

"I'll return to the private sector and put my money where my mouth is and try to build a business and create jobs. And I think my wife probably likes to hear that," added Lonegan.
