Glenn Beck is pushing to impeach the President of the United States and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after their stance on arming rebels in Syria.
“I personally am calling to impeach the President of the United States,” he said on his Tuesday show on TheBlaze Network. “This is impeachable. He is arming known terrorists, and people like John McCain should be impeached as well.”
What set off the conservative political commentator was the White House’s announcement made Monday about waiving rules tied to the Arms Export Control Act, allowing the transport of gas masks and non-lethal protective equipment against chemical weapons.
The Arms Export Control Act states that it “provides the authority to control the export of defense articles and services, and charges the President to exercise this authority.”
The waiving of these rules by President Obama is what Beck believes to be insane.
“We did not get into bed with Hitler to defeat Japan,” he said on his talk show according to Politico. “We did not do it. It’s the height of insanity But I also believe it is impeachable. I believe it is treason.”
In a statement released on Monday, National Security Council Spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said the action will allow the U.S. government to provide “where appropriate, certain non-lethal assistance inside or related to Syria.”
The decision comes as tensions in Syria rise while the U.S. and Russia work on a disarmament deal to force Syrian President Bashar Assad to give up his chemical weapons. But Beck argues waiving the rules will enable terrorists.
“We know some of the arms are going to fall into the hands of Al Qaeda,” he said. “And how do we know that? Because the president just had to waive the law saying that we are going to arm known terrorists. If that’s not an impeachable offense, for Lindsey Graham, for John McCain, for John Boehner, for the President of the United States, I don’t know what an impeachable offense is.”
