Glenn Beck: I'll Fire Anyone Who Goes Green

Publish date:

Glenn Beck thinks climate change is a “load of socialist, communist crap,” and said on his radio show he will fire anyone on his staff that vies to make his office a greener place, honing in on energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs specifically.

"I'm dead serious," Beck said. "I fire the person that starts to purchase fluorescent light bulbs, unless that is the only light bulb for a very specific reason, and I want to be cc'd on what that reason is." How about to light a dark room? Is that reason enough?

Even if you think climate change is “communist crap”—and 69 percent of Americans recognize the mounting scientific evidence of it—there’s a compelling financial argument in favor of a switch to compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). According to SFGate.com “The Environmental Protection Agency that if every household in the United States replaced just one standard incandescent light bulb with an energy-efficient one, the nation would annually save about $600 million in energy costs --- enough to power 3 million homes for a year.”

CFLs use one-fourth as much energy as older incandescent bulbs and have a longer lifespan, which translates to $28 in electricity costs in its lifetime versus $120 for incandescent bulbs. This means the CFL will save $92 and 460 kilowatt hours of energy over its lifespan.

Beck’s declaration comes two months after President Barack Obama rolled out his plan on curbing climate change.

“As a president, as a father and as an American, I am here to say we need to act,” the president told a crowd of roughly 500 people at Georgetown University in June. “I refuse to condemn your generation and future generations to a planet that’s beyond fixing. And that’s why today I’m announcing a new national climate action plan, and I’m here to enlist your generation’s help in keeping the United States of America a leader, a global leader in the fight against climate change.”
