Fox’s John Stossel: Women Should Pay More for Health Insurance (Video)

Fox Business host John Stossel appeared on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning claiming women should be charged more for health insurance because they go to the doctor “much more often than men,” either because they’re smarter or “maybe they’re hypochondriacs.”

“The website is minor,” Stossel ceded. “They will fix that. Central planning is the problem because this just kills the market and the competition in the market that makes things better.”

“For example,” he continued. “Yesterday, President [Barack] Obama stood in front of a bunch of women in Massachusetts and said, ‘No longer will those evil insurance companies be able to charge you women more.’ But when did you last go to the doctor?”

“When did I last go to the doctor?” host Steve Doocy paused.

“Elisabeth could answer quite quickly,” Stossel said, speaking of co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

“But if it’s insurance, you ought to be able to charge people who use the services more...” Stossel continued.

“It’s not fair if you pay less than she does,” Doocy mused.

“It’s fair if you pay for what you use, unless you’re destitute,” Stossel said.

“Pay for what you use” doesn’t govern health insurance, or course. Rates are created by calculating risk. A serious or incurable illness is a risk. That person will be using up benefits fast and there is no end in sight.

A healthy woman who requires preventative screenings for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and human papilloma virus (which causes cervical cancers) is making an attempt not to be a risk, and seeing a doctor to procure birth control makes her even less likely to be in the hospital later this year.

HBO host Bill Maher said Tuesday that women are the reason that Obamacare won’t fail because they need annual pelvic and breast exams to screen for cancer and obtain birth control.

“Women get it because women are a little more complicated,” Maher said. “You know, they want contraception, they want breast exams [and] they’re a little smarter about that, too. They don’t think they’re invincible.”
