President Donald Trump's son Eric Trump is making news for having a Mexican-themed birthday party.

Eric Trump, who turned 34 on Jan. 6, was caught on video at Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant in Westchester County, New York, wearing a sombrero while blowing out the candles on his birthday cake, the Daily Mail reports.

The cake was identified by the Daily Mail as a "Fudgie The Whale Cake," which features "freshly made ice cream separated by a layer of chocolate crunchies topped with fudge, vanilla crunchies and whipped frosting," according to the Carvel manufacturer's website.

Guests included his wife Lara Trump, his brother, Donald Trump Jr., and a group of friends -- almost all of whom were decked out in sombreros.

In the 18-second video, the happy party-goers are seen snapping photos of themselves and others, while being serenaded with live music consisting of at least two guitars and one accordion.

"HappyBirthday to one of the greatest people I know," tweeted Lynne Patton, a member of the party and an appointee to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. "We love you, Eric! Amazing night with even more amazing friends. I think Lara summed it up best when she said, 'I love everyone at this table so much!'"

Ordinarily, partying at a Mexican restaurant would not be big news, but considering some of his father's remarks about Mexico and its citizens, some observers think Eric Trump's birthday theme was not in good taste.

During the 2016 presidential election campaign, Donald Trump notoriously made some disparaging remarks about Mexican people. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people," he said.

In addition to his promise to build a wall to keep "illegal aliens" out of the United States, he also called the Mexican government "totally corrupt," notes the Southern Poverty Law Center. At a rally in New Hampshire, he joked that a plane overhead "could be a Mexican plane up there, they're getting ready to attack." He also declared that an Indiana-born federal judge was unqualified to preside over a case involving Trump University because "he's a Mexican."

However, the New York Daily News notes that on Cinco De Mayo in 2016, he did tweet: "I love Hispanics!"

According to what the Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant told the Daily News, Eric Trump had dined there about "four times in the last three months." When asked whether they had any qualms about serving the son of Donald Trump, a staffer at the restaurant said: "We have to take care of him as a regular customer."
