Surprising? Elizabeth Edwards Cut John Out of Will Days Before Death

Publish date:

After Elizabeth Edwards suffered such a public humiliation at the hands of her cheating husband John, she got the last laugh, cutting him out of her will just days before her death.

She signed her will on December 1, just six days before she passed away after a long battle with breast cancer at age 61. Her eldest daughter Cate was named executor. It reads:

All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles owned by me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to my children.

In addition to not getting anything, Edward was not even mentioned once in the will. And really, why should he have been? While not divorced, the couple was estranged for quite some time. They announced their separation last January after 32 years of marriage.

This followed the revelations that Edwards had an affair with former aide Rielle Hunter, and the eventual admission that he was indeed the father of her child.

Elizabeth Edwards publicly stood by her husband in the early days of the scandal, saying he had admitted to a one-night stand with Hunter. But she was later embarrassed when the truth slowly emerged that it was more than a one-night stand, leading to their separation.

So, with all that, it seems appropriate that Edwards was not mentioned in the will. And making it one of the final acts of her life is the ultimate revenge.
