Former US Ambassador: Trump And Putin 'Trash' Clinton

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul accused President-elect Donald Trump of joining with Russian President Vladimir Putin to "trash" Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“So now the President-elect and an autocrat in the Kremlin team up to trash an American,” McFaul tweeted. “Unprecedented. Will Republicans speak up?”

McFaul was referring to a tweet by Trump, in which he quoted Putin from a news article published that day.

“Vladimir Putin said today about Hillary and Dems: 'In my opinion, it is humiliating. One must be able to lose with dignity.' So true!” Trump wrote.

Putin's full quote was that the Democrats “are losing on all fronts and looking elsewhere for things to blame,” according to The Washington Post. “In my view, this, how shall I say it, degrades their own dignity. You have to know how to lose with dignity.”

McFaul, a Democrat appointed to the ambassador to Russia role in 2012 by President Barack Obama before resigning in 2014, insinuated that Trump has been working with the Kremlin.

"Why is Trump so militantly against an investigation into Putin's meddling in our elections? What does he have to hide? This love fest is odd,” McFaul tweeted, according to The Independent. "And the gall of Putin to be lecturing losing candidates how to act after a real election when he has never won a free and fair election ever."

Although conclusive evidence has not been released, Democrats have repeatedly blamed Putin for Clinton's stunning loss because of Democratic National Committee email leaks, as well as email leaks of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

But during the Moscow convention, Putin pointed out that Republicans handily beat Democrats in the House and Senate races throughout the U.S.

“Did we do that, too?” he said.
