Did 9/11 Turn George W. Bush and Rudy Giuliani into Fake Heroes?

Publish date:

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman lashed out on the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of September 11th, calling President George W. Bush and New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani "fake heroes."

In his 'Conscience of a Liberal' blog today, the Nobel Prize-winning economist wrote: "What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons."

"The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it."

Krugman did not  allow comments for his post "for obvious reasons," but we will.

What do you think?  Are George W. Bush and Rudy Giuliani the "fake heroes" of 9/11 or has Krugman crossed the line?
