Dick Cheney Skirts Question About Jeb Bush And Iraq, Blames Obama

Former Vice President Dick Cheney skirted a question about whether Jeb Bush would have invaded Iraq knowing what Americans know now in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Instead of answering outright, he attacked President Barack Obama and argued that people should be more critical of the Commander in Chief’s withdrawal of American Troops.

“The relevant question first ought to be directed to Obama, and it’s: ‘Knowing what you know now, would you have abandoned Iraq and pulled the troops out three years ago?’” Cheney said.

He added that the outcome of the U.S.’s invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan has turned people away from foreign intervention, but Americans favored the war effort after Sept. 11, 2001.

“As we got further from 9/11, there was a tendency for a lot of people to say, ‘Let somebody else do it; we’ve done our share,’” Cheney said. “Well, that makes no sense at all if 19 guys with airline tickets and box cutters can take down the World Trade Center and Pentagon.”

Cheney argued that the next president needs to be even more involved in the Middle East and deploy American troops to Iraq.

He also advocated for arming the Kurds, who are currently fighting against ISIS, and making amends with Sunni countries that are unhappy with the Iranian nuclear deal.

Though Cheney served under Jeb’s big brother, he has not endorsed a GOP candidate.
