Dennis Rodman Tweets Support For Donald Trump's Presidential Run

GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump gained a new follower on Friday as former NBA player Dennis Rodman tweeted his support for the controversial candidate's run.

Trump "has been a great friend for many years," Rodman tweeted. "We don't need another politician, we need a businessman like Mr.Trump! Trump 2016[.]"

In a little less than two hours, Trump responded to the five-time NBA champion's tweet.

"Thank you," Trump tweeted to Rodman. "It's time to #MakeAmericaGreatAgain! I hope you are doing well!"

This isn't the first time Rodman and Trump have crossed paths--Rodman, who was a contestant on Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice", garnered a positive response from Trump after his head-turning trip to North Korea in 2013. Trump told Fox News that Rodman is "smart in many ways."

"You look at the world, the world is blowing up around us," Trump said to the news network. "Maybe Dennis is a lot better than what we have."

The White House, however, did not think the same, as former press secretary Jay Carney called Rodman's trip "a publicity stunt," according to The Washington Post.

A string of controversial comments have further propelled Trump into the media spotlight. In a seemingly unbelievable feat, his most recent comments on Sen. John McCain, which 50 percent of Republicans disagree with, have not greatly tarnished his performance at the polls. A July 22 poll by Public Policy Polling found Trump "narrowly leading" in the national Republican primary with 19 percent.

Trump's most recent trip was to Texas on July 23. There, he toured the Mexico-U.S. border and commented on the "huge problem" of illegal immigration into the United States.
