Defense Sec. Gates Shifts Pentagon's Budget Priorities


Defense Secretary Robert Gates has announced that the Defense Department's budget will be undergoing significant changes, cutting expensive and popular weapons programs while investing heavily in technology that will help the U.S. fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. Among the projects on the chopping block are the construction of the F-22 jet fighter, an approximately $120 million plane that has yet to be used in combat, and a fleet of new presidential helicopters.
