Donald Trump has been dominating the polls in North Carolina, but his way to the top could be blocked by Deez Nuts.
Yes, you read that right.
According to Public Policy Polling, Donald Trump is leading the field of GOP candidates with 24 percent in North Carolina, outstripping second place candidate, Ben Carson, by 10 points. Carson is trailed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has 10 percent of the respondents’ support. Sen. Ted Cruz of Florida is tied with the new independent candidate Deez Nuts with 9 percent.
Public Policy Polling surveyed 957 voters, both conservative and liberal, to obtain those statistics.
Deez Nuts received the highest favorability rating from moderate respondents, but most people still aren’t sure what to think about the newest candidate. The campaign is completely legitimate. According to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission, Deez Nuts for President 2016 is an independent campaign based in Wallingford, Iowa.
North Carolina isn’t the only place Deez Nuts is outstripping the competition. Nuts polled in at 8 percent in Minnesota and 7 percent in Iowa. Given that "Deez Nuts" was a trending topic on Twitter in the U.S. for several hours at the time of publication, this could be the campaign to turn the 2016 election on its head.
