Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas ended his campaign on May 3 after losing the Indiana primary to GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
Craig Mazin, Cruz’s former college roommate, celebrated the end of the campaign on Twitter, notes RawStory.com:
"Ted Cruz kept saying God wanted him to be President, and this is what happened. So either there is no God, or he reeeeally doesn't like Ted."
"Ted Cruz quits the race. Up next, the other GOP senators give him the soap and pillowcase treatment."
"AMERICA WINS. I am extremely happy to return to being completely irrelevant. Honestly, it was my most fervent wish."
"To all the many well-wishers: it was truly my pleasure, and as long as Ted Cruz is in office ... I will be watching."
After Cruz dropped out, Trump offered some kind words for the candidate who he had called "Lyin' Ted" for months and, only hours earlier, said it was "horrible" that Cruz's dad may have known Lee Harvey Oswald, based on a gossip report.
"Ted Cruz, I don’t know if he likes me or if he doesn’t like me, but he is one hell of a competitor. He is a tough, smart guy," Trump said at his victory press conference, reports Mediaite.com.
"And he has got an amazing future, he has got an amazing future, so I want to congratulate Ted," Trump added.
After ripping Trump for the remarks about his dad in the morning, Cruz refused to say in Evansville, Indiana, if he would support Trump as the GOP presidential nominee, reports RawStory.com.
"Senator, these are some of the strongest words you've used against Donald Trump yet," NBC News reporter Hallie Jackson told Cruz. "You know I’ve been with you, I’ve heard you talk about him. Today feels different for you. So, I'm going to ask you a question and you’re going to say I sound like a broken record and you're going to say that Donald Trump--."
"You sound like a broken record," Cruz cut her off. "Someone else have a question?"
Jackson started her question, but Cruz jumped in, "You've asked one already, Hallie. You've asked already."
"Will you support [Trump] as the nominee?" Jackson asked Cruz. "I don’t understand why you won't answer the question, Senator. If you say he's a liar, if you say he's a pathological liar, and you say that you can't---"
"Hallie, you've asked one already," Cruz interrupted.
