Before he was trounced in the GOP New York primary on April 19, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said Donald Trump's campaign "doesn’t seem capable of running a lemonade stand" (video below).
Cruz made his comments during a heated interview on Fox News host Sean Hannity's radio show on April 19, notes RawStory.com.
Hannity asked Cruz about his campaign's "very extensive" work in talking to delegates and securing their vote for the second ballot at the Republican convention in July.
However, Cruz instead talked about his campaign wins and the "whining from the Trump campaign."
Hannity bragged about his ratings before asking Cruz about the GOP's delegate selection process. According to Hannity, many Republican voters find the process "confusing."
Cruz insisted that only the "hard-core Donald Trump supporters" cared about Hannity's delegate questions, but Hannity told the GOP candidate that he was "sick" of him avoiding legitimate questions.
Cruz asserted that the Trump campaign was "complaining" and "whining" about his last five wins and slammed Trump's people for not knowing how to win delegates in those contests:
I cannot help that the Donald Trump campaign doesn’t seem capable of running a lemonade stand. Elections are won by voters and grassroots activists showing up and voting for the candidate they support, and we are winning election after election after election. And nobody, as I travel the country, nobody is asking me this other than the Trumpsters and people repeating it.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton defeated Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont in New York, but she didn't go after her rival in her victory speech. Instead, she took aim at Trump and Cruz, reports CrooksAndLiars.com:
It's becoming clearer that this may be one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are pushing a vision for America that's divisive and frankly dangerous.
Returning to trickle down economics. Opposing any increase in the minimum wage. Restricting a women's right to make her own healthcare decisions.
Promising to round up millions of immigrants. Threatening to ban all Muslims from entering the country. Planning to treat American Muslims like criminals.
These things go against everything America stands for. And we have a very different vision, it's about lifting each other up, not tearing each other down.
