Conservatives Claim Indictment of Obama-Hater Dinesh D'Souza is Conspiracy (Video)

Political conservative, author and anti-Obama filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza was charged yesterday for allegedly violating federal campaign finance laws.

According to, D'Souza "was charged with one count of making more than $10,000 of contributions in the names of others and one count of causing false statements."

D'Souza allegedly encouraged other people (straw donors) to give $20,000 to a U.S. Senate candidate and then paid them back for their donations, notes The New York Times.

Federal election laws ban "straw donors" and limit individual donations to $5,000 for any one candidate.

The candidate, who got the donations, was reportedly Republican Wendy Long, a longtime friend of D'Souza, who lost in a 2012 race against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).

D'Souza's debunked, but highly-grossing 2012 documentary, "2016: Obama's America," made him a hero to Republicans, even after he left his wife for a woman twenty years younger, noted the Daily Mail. now reports that the indictment of D'Souza is being called a conspiracy by his conservative defenders.

Matt Drudge of the right wing Drudge Report tweeted, "They are going after the Obama critics with indictments. VA Gov. Now Dinesh D'Souza. Holder unleashing the dogs."

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones told viewers in a video (below) yesterday, "The issue is here, they can find a mistake in your checking account and claim that it was fraud or wire fraud. They can do it to anybody. This is like Nazi Germany. Once they're done with these guys, they're coming after you and I."

On her radio show this morning (audio below), conservative host Laura Ingraham, a former girlfriend of D'Souza, said that his indictment "is more about stifling political dissent and intimidating other people from speaking out than it is about any real serious allegation of wrongdoing."
