In his testimony regarding President Donald Trump's alleged ties to Russia, former FBI director James Comey revealed that the Trump administration lied about him and the FBI.
During the testimony and the opening statement that preceded it, Comey spoke to Trump's actions surrounding the alleged collusion with Russia.
"The administration then chose to defame me and more importantly the FBI...those were lies, plain and simple," Comey said, according to a tweet by a New York Times staffer.
The quote quickly went viral, with many expressing shock over the revelation.
"Wow!" one Twitter user wrote after the tweet of Comey's quote began circulating.
"Quite a time we are living in. Nothing Trump does, no matter how wrong, unethical, or even potentially illegal bothers many folks. Issue," another user tweeted.
In his opening statement, Comey alleged that Trump attempted to intervene into the FBI's investigation of the Russia ties, prompting strong response from Democrats.
"It’s outrageous," Senator Mark Warner told The New York Times ahead of Comey's testimony. "He needs to tell his side of the story."
