While congratulating those who scored election wins for the Democrats on Nov. 7, former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton raised a few eyebrows when she also praised her political group, Onward Together.
"Last night was a great reminder of what’s possible when we come together and fight for what we believe in," Clinton tweeted the morning of Nov. 8, before mentioning her political group, Onward Together. "So I wanted to take a few minutes to celebrate the extraordinary successes of a few groups I -- and Onward Together -- proudly fight alongside."
Clinton then proceeded to list off and congratulate a number of groups she believed help secure the election wins.
"Proud that groups that Onward Together supports -- including [Swing Left], which is laser focused on taking back the House -- have been making incredible progress in the fight for 2018 and beyond," she added in another tweet. "Onward!"
Her tweet sparked controversy. Some thought she was, to an extent, taking credit for the wins when they didn't think she deserved to.
"I really don't think it had anything to do with her; it was all about people are fed up with Trump and the Republicans," wrote one person in the Daily Mail's comments section.
"Does she not ever shut up?" commented a second. "Her losing last year was everybody else's fault. Now she's claiming credit for the Dems victory last night. Hillary, NOBODY voted for those people because of you!"
"Hillary has always been about ME," wrote another. "She doesn't realize it's despite her."
Some said Democrats won on Nov. 7 precisely because she was not running.
"Dems will always come together, they just didn't want to come together behind you," added one person in The Hill's comments section. "Take the hint and go for that long 'walk in the woods'. Then never emerge, stay hidden until the elections are over, that means 2020 as well as 2018. Dems don't need the Clinton cudgel used on their candidates by the GOP."
"Maybe the only reason Dems won is because Hillary wasn't on the ballot," suggested another.
"I voted for you and I mean this sincerely," added another. "STFU and retire already, you're now toxic for the party and you're a sore loser."
Others defended Clinton.
"She did NOT say it was her," shot back one. "That's not what she said or meant at all. You lousy liars."
"Dang she can't say anything without being made fun of," added another. "She is happy dems won so what."
