Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) will resign his U.S. Senate seat in January to head up the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Sen. DeMint is well-known for denying climate change, fighting against Obamacare, opposing teachers who are gay or unmarried and sleeping with a significant other and advocated stripping all federal employees of collective bargaining rights, reports

He also blocked the creation of the National Women’s History Museum, compared striking Chicago teachers to “thugs” in the Middle East and claiming that people with pre-existing conditions got better care before Obamacare.

The Heritage Foundation’s current president, Ed Feulner, will take a newly-created job as 'Chancellor.'

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) will appoint Sen. DeMint's replacement in the coming months.
