CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked Arkansas state Sen. Bart Hester (R) today if his proposed "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" would allow Christian businesses to discriminate against gay people.
Hester claimed his bill "does not allow for discrimination in any way," but added that Christian businesses would be allowed to "not participate in the message of a homosexual wedding or ceremony" on the grounds of the First Amendment, noted RawStory.com (video below).
According to MediaMatters.org, Tapper repeatedly asked Hester how his bill would not allow a Christian florist to discriminate, but would permit a Christian florist to not sell flowers to a gay couple for their wedding.
Arkansas Gov. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) has said he will not sign the bill until it mirrors a federal law (which would have legal supremacy over a state law), notes USA Today.
