The billionaire Koch brothers, through their group "Americans for Prosperity," are trying to turn the American public against the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) with TV commercials that lie about the health care program.
Uninsured Americans will be enrolled in Obamacare on October 1, but the new ad entitled “Questions” tries to scare Americans with debunked claims from years ago (video below).
According to ThinkProgress.org, the first TV ad features a young mom named “Julie" who says she “has some questions about Obamacare” and fears that her young son Caleb, who suffers from seizures, might not get his needed medical care.
"I have some questions about Obamacare. If we can’t pick our own doctor, how do I know our family is going to get the care they need? And what am I getting in exchange for higher premiums and a smaller paycheck? Can I really try the folks in Washington with my family’s health care? I think we all deserve some answers," says Julie.
However, Obamacare does not dictate anyone's paycheck, which is decided by the employer, nor does it decide insurance premiums, which are set by the for-profit health insurance industry.
As ThinkProgress.org notes, nothing in Obamacare prevents people from choosing their own doctors. Americans who are uninsured will be able to choose a doctor who participates in the new insurance market exchange.
