This state wants to pass a law requiring child rapists to be castrated. Good or bad idea?
Alabama lawmaker wants sex offenders surgically castrated. The policy applies to male and female offenders over age 21, convicted of sex crimes against children under the age of 12. Proponents say this bill would prevent similar offenses. But many claim such punishment violates basic human rights. Eight states allow or mandate some form of chemical castration, and four states allow surgical castration for males. This new law would make it mandatory for inmates leaving prison. Should the bill be passed? Or is this cruel and unusual punishment?
