70 Million Background Checks for Gun Purchases Under President Obama

According to data recently released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the federal law enforcement agency has conducted 70,291,049 background checks for gun purchases since 2009, when President Obama was sworn in.

The FBI performed 14,033,824 background checks in 2009, reports, as well as 14,409,616 background checks for 2010, 16,454,951 in 2011, and 19,592,303 checks in 2012.

When those numbers are added to 2013, total number of background checks  is 70,291,049.

In contrast, during President George W. Bush's first term there were 36,090,415 background checks.

Much of the increase of guns being sold (and accompanying background checks) is due to unsubstantiated rumors that President Obama is going to confiscate all guns and all bullets.
