Giving Money to Church Eliminates Health, Financial Problems, Says Pat Robertson (Video)

Pat Robertson lectured an elderly viewer today about how she would have no health or financial problems if she gave her money to the church (tithing) correctly.

The senior said in a letter that she had been tithing since her childhood, but now she and her husband were living on Social Security and facing financial ruin, noted RightWingWatch.org (video below).

The elderly woman stated in her letter, "My husband has medical expenses, so we barely have any money. We still tithe, but would it be wrong to use that money towards medical expenses instead?”

Robertson offered no words of sympathy or comfort to the woman, but rather launched into a scripture-twisting lecture.

"Read what the Bible has to say in Malachi. He says, 'prove me with your tithes and offerings, I will rebuke the devourer for your sake," said Robertson.

However, the televangelist failed to mention that the Book of Malachi was written specifically to the Israelites around 516 B.C. and does not say someone cannot use their tithes for medical care or that people who tithe will not become physically ill or face financial problems.

“Your husband has all these medical problems because the ‘devourer’ has not been rebuked. You need to rebuke him. You give your tithes faithfully and God said, ‘I will rebuke the devour,’ the person that is eating up your money and eating up your health. So you want to be healthy? That’s a promise in the Word,” claimed Robertson.

Robertson’s own net worth is about $100 million, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com, but he never offered any help to the woman, even though there are are over 200 Bible verses about helping the poor.
