A new study released by the National Partnership for Women & Families (NPWF), ranks each state based on its laws protecting new parents in the workplace.
Factors such as paid family leave programs, paid sick leave and workplace protection for nursing mothers, all count toward each state’s numerical score, according to the NPWF report.
While federal laws guarantee some protections for parents in the workplace, the NPWF measured which states enforce laws that go above and beyond the national requirements.
The states that got an 'F' grade include: Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.
The states that got an 'A' include: California, Connecticut, Washington, D.C. and New Jersey.
