Beer Thief Leaves Apology Letter, $140 On Victims' Doorstep

One apparent thief came to his senses after years of stealing beer from his neighbors’ back yard, finally leaving the couple $140 and an apology note on their doorstep.

Cincinnati couple Dee and Leo Samad like to keep their backyard mini fridge stocked for when their friends come over. On several occasions over the years, they noticed that, sometimes, their fully stocked fridge suddenly only has a handful of beers left.

Dee explained that oftentimes she’d go out into their backyard and find their side gate mysteriously open; one time, her husband complained that there were only five beers left in their outdoor fridge after fully stocking it with a case of 18 a day or two before.

They never thought much of it until Dee one day found a note outside, and when she opened it, seven $20 bills fell out.

Here’s an excerpt from the letter:

Dear Homeowner,

Enclosed is a sum of cash that my friends and I owe you and your family to repay you for all of the times we have stolen from your poolside fridge/bar over the past few years, I speak on their behalf. Despite the legal implications of my actions I had hoped to talk to you face to face, man to man, but the potential consequences are quite honestly a stronger force than my own integrity… I hope you will accept my most sincere apology for trespassing as well as feeling entitled to take what was not mine…The amount is a rough estimate, and I realize no amount will completely satisfy the anger you may have.

The letter goes on to explain that he is a newfound worshipper of Jesus Christ, and would like to atone for his past sins.

Dee and Leo, however, are not angry and all and wish to meet the letter-writer.

“I have no desire to call the police. They know that they did wrong, they admitted that they did wrong, and it takes a big person to do that,” she said to local news station WKRC-TV. “I hope that he sees this on TV and knocks on our door,” she remarked.  “He would be welcome in our home.”
