Are You a Job Board Loser?

Do you sit at home late at night applying to jobs online in utter desperation?  Are you seeking the thrill of job search victory but settling for the daily agony of defeat?  Are you convinced that a spiffy resume and an online job search will land you your next career ?  Is your resume posted on more than five websites?  Do you apply to more than ten jobs a day online?  If you answer yes to two or more of these questions, then you are a Job-Board Loser.

Don't start throwing rotten fruit,  I didn't say that you are a loser.  You are however one of millions today that are using a loser strategy for conducting your job search.  What's worse is the feeling of absolute rejection when you apply to dozens of jobs each week, and never hear back from anyone.  You start to wonder what's wrong with you.  Well the good news is that there is nothing wrong with you - you're only going about your job search wrong.

A few years ago I posted a job I was hiring for on a major job board.  In 48 hours I received 450 resumes.  That was over ten new resumes each hour.  Although the job was in Troy Michigan, I received 12 resumes from India.  You see, in this global marketplace it takes far more than a submitted resume to cut through the clutter of noise in the marketplace.

The key to job search success today is by finding out about a job BEFORE it gets posted online.  Once the job makes it online, you become part of what I call, "The Electronic Cattle Call".  The electronic cattle call is where you compete with thousands of other Job-Board Losers who are sitting up late at night in their underwear applying to jobs in a desperate attempt to be discovered.  Does this sound like a successful job search strategy?  I think not.

If you're tired of being a job-search loser, then it's time to change your game plan.  You can't expect different results by doing the same things over and over.  Your network is the key to conducting a successful search.  It takes lots of conversations with lots of people to tap into the hidden job market.  Don't believe me?  Try it your way one more week and see how it worked for you.  I bet my way is better.  I know this because my way has helped tens of thousands land great new careers.
