Anonymous Win: Hacker Group Terrorizes Extremist Group Westboro Baptist Church

Over the weekend, hacker group Anonymous launched an offensive campaign against its longtime adversary, Westboro Baptist Church. After WBC announced that they would picket a vigil held for the victims of Sandy Hook, Anonymous did what they do best, and hacked into the group’s website and a few Twitter accounts.

Westboro Baptist Church is known best for its extreme anti-homosexual ideologies and has made headlines in recent years by picketing funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq, celebrities, and other tragic deaths, such as the 9-year-old girl killed in the Tuscon, Ariz. Shooting in 2011. WBC contends that America is getting punished for its acceptance of gays and lesbians.

After learning of the group’s plans to picket the vigil, Anonymous encouraged its followers to sign a whitehouse.gov petition labeling WBC as a hate group and found Twitter accounts belonging to members of the church.

The website of WBC, godhatesfags.com, went down earlier today as a result of Anonymous’ efforts. In addition, high-profile hacker @cosmothegod hacked into the Twitter account of WBC spokesperson Shirley Phelps-Roper and tweeted about his success. Anonymous also claimed to have changed her desktop background to a photo of gay porn, also allegedly found member’s social security numbers, and filed a death certificate for Phelps-Roper.

To say the least, Anonymous likely single-handedly stopped the group from picketing the vigil Sunday night — and with style.
