$1 and $5 ATM Machines Open Up Across Country

Most ATMs hand out 20 dollar bills, without the option to chose how the money is broken up. Want $40? You'll get two 20s. But of course, we always need those smaller bills, especially for things like cab fares and bus rides.

According to WTVR, two banks are now offering $1 and $5 ATMs. Chase and PNC have already opened hundreds of these ATMs, where customers can chose to have their money in denominations as low as a dollar, or they can simply take out one dollar.

Chase has about 400 of them, while PNC has added the technology to over 7000 machines.

Senior Financial Analyst at, Greg McBride, said these machines are particularly good in difficult financial times.

"When peoples' account balances have been lower, not having to withdraw more money than you really need is helpful," he said.

For those who don't have an account with Chase or PNC, access to the machines is still possible given a small fee.
