Yoga "Sleep" Meditation Can Help You Sleep Better

| by

I have to disagree with Madonna when she says “Time goes by so slowly.” Lately, the days seem to spin by at a frantic pace. I can’t believe it’s the 11th month of the year. I can’t believe I’ve lived in this apartment for 5 years. Lastly, I surely can’t believe that I’ve been alive for nearly 35 years.

I want it all to slow down. I want each and every moment to last just a little bit longer.

Time isn’t slowing down anytime soon. I can however, slow down my thoughts enough to breathe and take it all in. Which is exactly what I did last week when I experienced Yoga Nidra for the first time.

Yoga Nidra is known as yogic sleep. It is a guided practice of relaxation and meditation lasting anywhere from 20-40 minutes. According to Holistic Online “it is a wakeful state of deep introversion”.

My guide for the night was Jill Miller the creator of Yoga Tune-Up.

Our session included deep breathing, self massage and meditation. According to my research, yoga nidra can also include affirmations and visualizations.

After the “Breathe in Bliss Out” workshop with Jill I slept more peacefully than ever for several nights in a row.

No matter how busy I get, I need to take time to be still and breathe. It changes everything.
