A young lady is auctioning off her virginity so she can buy a new car.
The 18-year-old, known only as Kim, listed herself on German-based website Cinderella Escorts, with a starting bid of $173,000, reports 9News.
"Hello, my name is Kim and I want to sell my virginity," she says in her biography on the site.
Her rationale for selling her virginity is purely practical. "After I read about other virgins who sold their virginity on Cinderella Escorts I asked myself one question," she explained. "Should I give my virginity to a man who later on maybe will break up with me or is it better to take a lot of money instead?"
With that money she wants to buy a car, an apartment, and pay for a college education in Germany or Vienna.
Cinderella Escorts boasts that on their website, one "can find 100% real Virgins" who "sell their checked-up virginity for millions."
Kim claims Romanian-born Aleexandra Khefren as her inspiration. Khefren, also 18, made international headlines in March after selling her virginity for $3.2 million to a Hong Kong businessman.
"I am very curious about how sex is," she said at the time, according to the Daily Mail. "I have not experimented. I don't know what is it."
She justified it with the same explanation used two months later by Kim. "I wanted to sell my virginity with Cinderella Escorts rather than giving it to a future friend who might have left me anyway," she told The Star. "And I think many other girls have the same attitude."
Khefren was publicly ridiculed for her decision. On the British talk show "This Morning," she told co-host Phillip Schofield, "I am thinking it is strictly business not emotional. I will just drink a glass of wine and go through with it."
Schofield replied: "I'm a father, I've got two girls who are not far off your age, I have to say to you now, are you out of your mind?"
Khefren's lucrative deal was good for business at Cinderella Escorts, which claims that it was contacted by more than 300 interested virgins as a result.
In 2009, another Romanian auctioned off her virginity, as reported by The Telegraph at the time. A 45-year-old Italian businessman was the high bidder on that occasion, and he paid for 18-year-old Alina Percea to fly to Venice where she was treated to some sightseeing before losing her virginity in a luxury hotel.
Percea reportedly had no regrets. "I liked the man and got on with him well," she explained. "He didn't look 45, and he seemed much younger. We spoke in English as I can't speak Italian and he can't speak Romanian. He paid me a lot of compliments throughout the day, and he was very funny and charming. We got on very well, and I was pleased he'd won."
