Scottish Woman Charged After Sending Pictures Of Cheating Boyfriend With 18-Year-Old Lover

A Scottish woman was temporarily placed on the country's sex offender registry pending sentencing for an act of revenge porn. She has since been taken off the list.

Lorraine Donoghue, 32, of Falkirk, Scotland, was registered as a sex offender in October after pleading guilty to sending obscene photos through an electronic communications network, which is in violation of Scotland's Telecommunications Act, the Daily Record reported at the time. She also pleaded not guilty to two charges of forcing others to view unsolicited sexual images through social media, which the court accepted.

Scottish Sheriff Gillian Wade placed Donoghue on the registry as an interim measure until sentencing, which was originally scheduled for Nov. 19.

The charges against Donoghue, a mother of three, stemmed from an incident in April in which she sent six photos of her boyfriend, Willie Crawford, engaging in sexual activity with his 18-year-old lover to the young woman's boyfriend and mother in retaliation for the cheating, according to a recent article in the Daily Record.

The events leading to the incident reportedly began six weeks after Donoghue gave birth to her and Crawford's daughter, when she said she discovered a pair of women's underwear under Crawford's bed and confronted him about them.

"He denied cheating on me and then threw me out on the street with our baby girl," Donoghue told the Daily Record. "It was only later that I realized I knew his Facebook password so I logged in and had a look."

What Donoghue saw on the social media site infuriated her.

"There in his private messages were disgusting pictures and videos of him and this young teenager having sex and I felt instantly sick," she said, adding that Crawford had sent one of the sex videos to his friends.

Donoghue also reportedly found many time-stamped and dated messages between her boyfriend and his young lover discussing their relationship, proving the affair had been going on for at least a year.

In the messages, Crawford reportedly promised his lover that he would chose her over his newborn daughter, and the two discussed how Donoghue had found the 18-year-old's underwear.

The messages also revealed that Crawford had met the teen for sex while Donoghue was in labor with their child.

"Then in a moment of madness and utter desperation and anger, I took some screen grabs and mailed them to people I knew," Donoghue said.

"I even sent them to Willie and the girl and although I knew it was really nasty, I sent some to her mom and her boyfriend so they could see her and what she was doing," she added.

Donoghue reportedly sent the intimate pictures with the caption, "Here's your girlfriend."

She was eventually sentenced in a Falkirk criminal court to 15 months supervision and 120 hours of community service for sending the photos, which prosecutors said showed the 18-year-old girl "unclothed and engaged in sexual activity."

In early December, Sheriff Linda Smith decided to cancel the interim order made by Wade and take Donoghue off the sex offender registry, ruling that the offense contained no "sexual aggravation."

"Clearly your motivation was vengeful, not sexual," Smith said.

Donoghue told the Daily Record that she regrets her actions and warns other scorned women not to follow in her footsteps.

"I just want to move on and put the mess behind me but I want other women to be aware of the real dangers of getting back at any cheating lover," she said.

The Scottish government has recently passed a new law to address revenge porn, BBC reported in October.

The law, called the Abusive Behavior and Sexual Harm Bill, makes publishing sexually explicit photos of someone without their consent a criminal offense.
