Syrian warplanes are reportedly using the same air base that was bombed by the U.S. only one day earlier.
President Donald Trump ordered U.S. Navy destroyers to fire Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Shayrat base on April 6 in response to a chemical gas attack allegedly carried out by the Syrian government on Syrian civilians on April 4.
But the U.S. raid's success may have been short-lived. Reuters tweeted on April 7: "JUST IN: Syrian warplanes take off from air base hit by U.S., carry out strikes in Homs countryside - Syrian observatory for human rights."
Voice of America reporter Carla Babb tweeted more details on April 7:
#Syriastrikes didn't target runway as to not effect Russians, says US military official, & Tomahawk type used was precision, not cratering.
US military official tells VOA #SyriaStrikes hit couple dozen Syrian military aircraft, ammo storage & other infrastructure.
US Military official tells VOA #Syria strike didn’t hit any chem weapons-says strike was "appropriate, proportionate, precise & effective."
Trump's airstrike on Syria was strongly condemned on Twitter by some of his supporters on the alt-right, notes RawStory.com:
I guess Trump wasn't "Putin's puppet" after all, he was just another deep state/Neo-Con puppet. I'm officially OFF the Trump train.
Guys, I can't vehemently oppose destabilizing the Syrian government for 6 years and then support it just because Trump did it. Sorry.
People praising the Syria attack: Hillary. McCain. Lindsay Graham. Paul Ryan. Leftists. People against the attack: Real Trump Supporters.
White nationalist Richard Spencer told Politico that Trump's bombing of Syria was "a sad, shocking and deeply frustrating moment":
I condemn the strikes. I’m going to wait and see. Perhaps Trump is slapping Assad across the nose and won’t go further. Perhaps Russia was informed of the attacks. Worst-case scenario: We’re replaying the 2000s: A conservative comes to office on a populist message and becomes a globalist and neocon shill. Again, I’ll wait and see but I’m prepared to denounce Trump.
Alt-right Twitter personality Ricky Vaughn wrote, "THERE IS NO ENDGAME IN SYRIA if we remove Assad. No leader that can hold together that country," and added: "Hoping this is 88D chess giving Trump political space and an excuse for meeting with and negotiating with Putin."
Mike Cernovich, an alt-right blogger, tweeted about the airstrikes before they were reported: "Sources telling me U.S. attack in Syria planned for tonight, we must stop! #NoMoreWar."
Cernovich also livestreamed his message to his Twitter audience: "They want war. Deep state, all these people want it, man," and added, "[The media are] trying to con Trump into believing the people want war."
