A photo of a baby being held under running faucet water in Ireland has been making its rounds on social media recently, with many people calling for an investigation of alleged child abuse.
The photo shows a baby as water is poured into the child’s mouth from a faucet, Mirror reports.
Another photo surfaced that shows the child smiling as the faucet water is poured over the child’s head.
It has since made its rounds on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook and caused backlash from some of those who saw the photo.
Many have even reported the photo to police officials after seeing the images.
Law enforcement officials in Northern Ireland released a statement on their Facebook page addressing the issue.
“Folks many, many, many of you have been in touch with us via private message about a couple of images appearing on Facebook showing a child being held under a tap,” the statement reads. “We are aware of these images and have commenced an investigation.”
The statement continued, “Please rest assured that we will carry out a thorough investigation into these images.”
According to Belfast Live, the police in Northern Ireland investigate roughly four cases of “vile online abuse” each week.
