A 6-year-old girl in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India, was allegedly beaten to death by her father because she did not cover her head during a meal.
On Oct. 3, Zafar, alias Chand Miyan, saw that his daughter’s "dupatta," a traditional scarf, had slipped from her head while she ate and he became enraged, reports Tundra Tabloids. The girl’s head was smashed against the floor by her father until she was dead.
“The husband got furious and hit the wife,” neighbor Meharban said. "Then he beat his daughter to death.”
Zafar reportedly had strict rules in the home, requiring the women to wear a veil at all times. The women were not allowed to leave the house nor were visitors allowed inside.
Police arrested Zafar after a complaint was filed by his wife, One India reports. He is considered to be mentally unstable, according to police.
This isn't the only recent report of a father killing his daughter over what may be construed as a trivial offense.
On Sept. 11, a Pakistani father, with the help of his son, beat his daughter to death for not baking roti, a round bread, correctly, Opposing Views reported. Upon his arrest, he admitted to murdering his daughter, adding that she not only made a roti with an imperfect shape but also burned the bread.
His son was also arrested.
