Hamas proudly displayed pictures of a tank on Jan. 31, claiming that it was made from parts of a captured Israeli tan. However, it turned out to just be a highly-customized car.
During a memorial service for seven members who were killed in Gaza, Hamas displayed their “tank” for social media purposes. Hamas said they had captured it from Israeli forces and pieced it together again in Gaza.
“Let us point our index finger toward heaven and renew our pledge of allegiance to Allah and to the commanders of the Izzedin Al-Qassam Brigades and vow to continue on the path of jihad and resistance,” one man says in video footage, according to WND. “[We are] preparing ourselves for the day that we shall meet those [Israeli] tanks.”
Despite the attempt to look impressive, photos show that the vehicle is nothing much. According to a spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the “tank” is a vehicle made of wood. The spokesperson also noted that tanks "don’t run on wheels."
Although the pictures were clearly embarrassing, some Twitter users were still excited about the vehicle.
“The world amazed when Hamas created Tank,” one Twitter user wrote, according to Albawalba. “May Allah give victory.”
On Jan. 29, Senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said that Palestinian fighters are still continuing to dig tunnels into Israel and testing rockets, WND notes.
