Israeli Musician Attacks Terrorist With Guitar

| by Jordan Smith

A 26-year-old Israeli tried to use his acoustic guitar to stop a knife-wielding terrorist on March 8.

Yishai Montgomery hit the assailant over the head with his musical instrument after the Palestinian had stabbed several people on a beach, media reports said.

“I had just sat down to play my guitar near the ocean when I heard screams from down the road,” Montgomery said in an interview, according to Jerusalem Online. “Immediately, I stood up and started to run after him with my guitar, I slammed it on his head. He was stunned and didn’t know what to do with himself.”

The attack left one American tourist dead and nine other people injured.

“Then, I realized that I was the only person who knew that he was the terrorist,” he added. “He started to run down the street. I left everything behind and shouted ‘terrorist,’ and started to run after him with a group of six-seven people.”

“I knew there were wounded people on the beach, but staying there with them seemed less important then,” Montgomery added, according to Times of Israel.

The attacker, 22-year-old Bashar Massalha, was later shot and killed by security forces.

A GoFundMe page set up with the title “Help the Israeli guitar hero” had raised $4,654 of a target of $5,000 by March 9.

“He deserves a new top of the line guitar or two or 3, heck he deserves his own CD and a whole orchestra! Let us help jumpstart his career!” the GoFundMe page’s creator wrote.

Montgomery was not the only civilian called into action against a terrorist attacker March 8. In the town of Petah Tikva, a father of five fought back against an attacker and managed to use the knife he was wielding to stab him.

Yonatan Azarihan was in a corner store when the incident took place.

“It’s a miracle, I wasn’t at all prepared for anything like that,” he said from hospital, where he was recovering from multiple stab wounds, according to Times of Israel.
