A huge fireball was caught on several videos (below) in Bangkok, Thailand, this morning. The fireball fell during rush hour, so cell phones were on and filming the spectacle.
The fireball was also seen in the Kanchanaburi province, about 124 miles outside of Bangkok. RT.com notes via Thai PBS reported that some people heard a loud explosion; there may have been a second explosion as well.
"There is a high possibility that the object spotted this morning ... on social media, is an object from outer space," Saran Poshyachinda, of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, told CNN.
"It looks like an asteroid traveling to Earth and grazing through the air and it turned into a fireball," Poshyachinda added. "It might not weigh that much, I think about a few kilograms."
Other possibilities are a burning balloon or space junk that burned out in the atmosphere.
