A California high school swim coach has resigned after video surfaced of him allegedly pulling a swimmer by the hair because she did not swim fast enough. However, the video is far from conclusive.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, assistant coach Geoff Capell was said to be angry because he thought two of his swimmers gave up after it became clear they were going to lose the race.
When Roseville High School varsity captain Jennifer McCarroll finished her laps, the video shows Capell grabbing the top of her swim cap.
The girl's mother said Capell pulled Jennifer out of the water by the bun beneath the cap, then yelled at her. She has filed a complaint. Police are investigating.
"We're very sorry that this unfortunate incident occurred,’ said Steve Williams, Director of Pupil Services for the Roseville Joint Unified School District. "A physical response like this by any coach for any reason cannot and will not be supported."
