The Philadelphia Phillies have a miserable outfield. So much so that the 610 WIP mid-day crew of Glen Macnow and Anthony Gargano were discussing the worst Phillies outfields of all time. You only do that when the current one is so awful.
So, it doesn’t help them that the one good outfielder that they do have, Shane Victorino, is hurt. He’s got a bum hamstring and the team just placed him on the disabled list.
And originally, GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. said that Domonic Brown would not be called up. But good news for Phillies fans, he changed his mind. The Phils top prospect was recalled today from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and should see a decent amount of playing time.
Ben Francisco and Raul Ibanez are as close to worthless as can be for corner outfielders. Neither are good defensively and neither can hit. Brown has a cannon arm and was hitting .341 in the minors before getting the call up.
The Phils need his bat desperately.
