The artwork for Kanye West’s new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, has been banned, according to the rapper. West vented his spleen on Twitter today and posted a link to what he claims to be the offending article, supposedly banned in the US.
“Yoooo they banned my album cover!!!!! Ima tweet in a few…,” West wrote, linking to a snap of the cover. “In the 70s album covers had actual nudity… It’s so funny that people forget that… Everything has been so commercialised now.”
The cover which depicts West, as he put it, “chilling on the couch with my phoenix!” has apparently been given the thumbs down by Wal-Mart. “I know that cover just blew yall minds…I wish yall could see how hard I’m smiling right now!!!” And off he went: “In all honesty … I really don’t be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers. I wanna sell albums but not at the expense of my true creativity.
“So Nirvana can have a naked human being on they cover but I can’t have a PAINTING of a monster with no arms and a polka dot tail and wings.” By "banned," I think he means his record label took one look at it and said, “West, put down the crayons and let us handle this.”
So what do you make of the cover?
