Pedophiles could be given child-like sex robots as part of their treatment, a leading robotics expert claims.
"We've had sex toys for as long as mankind, and womankind, have been around," Ron Arkin, Georgia Tech's Mobile Robot Lab Director said during a speech at Berkeley. "Child-like robots could be used for pedophiles the way methadone is used to treat drug addicts."
Arkin also encouraged researchers to begin testing potential therapies with sex robots.
"There are no presumptions that this will assuredly yield positive results - I only believe it is worth investigating in a controlled way."
Arkin added that if a few children are saved this way, the research could be worth the time, and that child robots could be the most powerful tool in reducing harm to children.
In addition to child sex bots, Arkin suggested that animal bots and disabled bots could also be created to cater to all tastes.
Arkin noted that he only supports the child sex bot in a clinical setting, not for recreational use, and admitted to fear that a black market might be created for that purpose.
