A restaurant owner in the Netherlands recently tried to deliver the first asparagus of the season via drone to his place of business with disastrous results.
According to the International Business Times, the drone took off and landed successfully for a battery change.
DutchNews.nl reports the drone later crashed and went up in flames on a country road (video below).
"Yeah, that wasn't funny. You think you have a cool idea, with a drone, how original can you be? Picking up asparagus with a drone," Ronald Peijenburg, owner of the Michelin-starred De Zwaan restaurant, told Omroep Brabant, a local TV station.
"This is very, very sad because it was an amateur pilot, the owner of the drone, who organized this especially for me and brings his own toys. So this wasn't supposed to happen of course," Peijenburg added.
In past years, Peijenburg has used a Formula 1 race car, hot air balloon and helicopter to deliver asparagus to his eatery in Etten-Leur, North Brabant.
