Race car driver Lloyd Read was nearly hit in the head by a flying tire during the IndyLights race in St. Petersburg, Fla. at the beginning of the month.
According to NBCSports.com, the race kicked off the "Mazda Road to Indy."
Jalopnik.com reports that Read recalled the incident (video below) on his YouTube page:
Start of the first race of the season. It was going great up until turn 3. I never want to have to dodge a tire at 120 MPH again! So glad that Scott was ok after a scary suspension failure.
"Scott" is race car driver Scott Anderson who hit a racing wall on the left side, causing the tire and debris to come flying towards Read.
