Suzy Favor Hamilton represented the United States at the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympics. While she enjoyed virtually no success at any of those Games, her consistent presence on the big stage solidified her as one of the American faces of middle distance running.
As is usually the case with former Olympians, upon retirement, she embarked on career full of media appearances and public speeches.
Yesterday, Favor Hamilton admitted that she had spent the past year or so working as a high-end Las Vegas prostitute. Her secret apparently leaked out when she began telling clients who she really was.
Less than 24 hours later, Disney canceled an appearance Favor Hamilton was supposed to make in August 2013 during the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend. Had it gone down, this would have been her third Disney speaking engagement since last February.
Favor Hamilton, for what it’s worth, isn’t running away from her bad decisions.

I do not expect people to understand, but the reasons for doing this made sense to me at the time and were very much related to depression.— Suzy Favor Hamilton (@favorhamilton) December 20, 2012
As crazy as I know it seems, I never thought I would be exposed, therefore never hurting anybody.— Suzy Favor Hamilton (@favorhamilton) December 20, 2012
I have been seeking the help of a psychologist for the past few weeks and will continue to do so after I have put things together.— Suzy Favor Hamilton (@favorhamilton) December 20, 2012
The cancelation of speaking engagements and whatnot is inevitable in the short term. Nobody wants to be associated with a prostitute – particularly not companies whose branding centers around family-oriented entertainment. That being said, sooner rather than later you will see Favor Hamilton reemerge as a prominent figure on the issues that drove her into this whole awkward mess in the first place.
