It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s a…bottle?
For all of the really observant people who thought they saw something flying before Sunday's men’s 100-meters final – you are now officially vindicated.
According to Yahoo! Sports, some moron who was in the stands for the most highly anticipated track and field event of the entire Olympics threw a beer bottle that landed directly behind Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin and Co.
Fortunately, none of the racers were hurt. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the quarterback who launched that ill-advised pass. Via Martin Rogers:
Judo bronze medalist Edith Bosch of the Netherlands claimed on her Twitter account that she had been watching the final from near the start line and had physically "beat" the man responsible for the bottle.
The man in question was arrested by London police and is now facing prison time.
For what it’s worth, the distraction didn’t seem to bother race’s eventual winner much – Usain Bolt still blazed past the competition in a ridiculous 9.63 seconds.
