On Independence Day, the champs stayed the champs.
Joey Chestnut captured his sixth straight Nathan’s Hot-Dog Eating Contest victory in record-tying fashion on Wednesday.
By eating 68 dogs in a mere 10 minutes Chestnut, was able to tie a mark that he had previously set – and he did it all in front of a crowd of adoring fans who enjoyed every single minute of the mildly disgusting display.
Last year, Chestnut scarfed down 62 hot dogs.
On the other side of things, in the women’s division – Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas was able to take down the other ladies by eating 45 hot dogs. Unlike her male counterpart, Thomas didn’t just tie a previous world record, she actually broke it.
The day before, on Tuesday, Thomas revealed the secret to her success:
"My technique is I dunk two hot dogs in the water cup and then eat," she said.
It’s that simple.
Prior to last year, men and women competed in joint contests.
