By now everyone has heard about the real MVP of Monday night’s BCS National Championship Game.
No, not Eddie Lacy.
We are obviously talking about Katherine Webb – the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron and the only recognizable name to emerge from the Crimson Tide’s dismantlement of Notre Dame.
While Alabama was taking it to the Fighting Irish, the ESPN TV cameras panned over to Webb. The nation instantly fell in love. She gained something like 200K Twitter followers in the span of 24 hours; every national news outlet in the nation covered her rise to fame in some sort of capacity; sports networks had to come out and publicly apologize for their on-air talent drooling over her beauty.
Things got that crazy.
Among Webb’s 200K new admirers: Arizona Cardinals defense end, Darnell Docket.
As noted by the Los Angeles Times:
Dockett, a defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals, to tweet out his phone number to Webb, along with an invitation to join him at Wingstop and the King of Diamonds strip club.
Dockett soon realized what he had done, deleted the post, tweeted an expletive and an explanation saying he meant to send Webb a direct message. He didn't seem to mind the attention, judging from this tweet: "Y'all think I don't know how to erase a DM? ... and y'all think I'm embarrassed ? ... y'all really don't know me?"
McCarron, upon learning that his girlfriend is now a bigger star than him, took to Twitter to protect her honor.
@ddockett boy stop! U gotta better chance with them strippers then this way homie know that. better stop eating them wings and win. All love— AJ McCarron (@10AJMcCarron) January 8, 2013
@ddockett and talk to them and tell them to get me and I will come help y'all!— AJ McCarron (@10AJMcCarron) January 8, 2013
So there you go.
We started the breakup clock for this doomed relationship yesterday. It’s still going strong.
