Wednesday night’s showdown between the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder was huge. These two teams are the young guns of the Western Conference; when the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs finally die off, Memphis and Oklahoma City will rule the West. Their rivalry, really, has the potential to be one of the best in NBA history. The stars on these two teams haven’t even hit their primes yet.
While the magnitude of yesterday’s outing can’t be overstated from a basketball standpoint, the reason a lot of people will be talking about it today will be for non-basketball reasons. With two minutes remaining in the game, Kendrick Perkins and Zach Randolph got into something of an altercation.
Check it out:
An altercation between Perkins and Randolph is interesting in itself just because of how hardcore both of them are, but that wasn’t the most fascinating thing about this beef. The most fascinating thing about the beef were these tweets sent out by Darnell Mayberry:
A mouthpiece remained on the floor near the Thunder's locker room for a while long after the game. Something happened back there.— Darnell Mayberry (@DarnellMayberry) November 15, 2012
After getting ejected in the 4th quarter, Kendrick Perkins & Zach Randolph had an altercation near the locker rooms. Police investigating.— Darnell Mayberry (@DarnellMayberry) November 15, 2012
Police captain saying an altercation did not take place and there is no investigation underway.— Darnell Mayberry (@DarnellMayberry) November 15, 2012
What really happened? We may never find out.
For what it’s worth, after the fact, Randolph seemed to imply that everything was settled between him and Perkins. Is it really? We’ll find out for sure when these teams meet again later this year.
