Grizzlies Survive Double Overtime Against Suns

The Memphis Grizzles survived a tough game against the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 11, coming out with a 122-110 win in double overtime at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.

After struggling for most of the game, Marc Gasol scored the first seven points of the second overtime to propel the Grizzlies to their sixth straight win against the Suns.

"Marc was huge," Mike Conley said. "Early on, it seemed like he wasn't as aggressive, and finally, it clicked. He wanted the ball."

Gasol finished with 12 points, nine rebound and four blocks. Zach Randolph led the team with 27 points while adding 17 rebounds and four assists. Conley scored 25 and Courtney Lee added 18.

Isaiah Thomas led the Suns with 20 points, but committed a game-high seven turnovers, including a costly one in the first overtime with the Suns up by two and 17 seconds left. Lee stole the bad pass from Thomas and then got fouled. He made both free throws to send the game to a second overtime.

The Grizzles started the second overtime with a 9-0 run and held the Suns to only two points the entire period. They made one of their 11 shots in the final overtime, while the Grizzlies made six of their seven shots.

The Grizzlies are now tied with the Houston Rockets atop the Southwest Division with a 26-11 record, and sit at number four in all of the Western Conference.

The Suns remain in the top eight of the Western Conference, which would secure them a playoff spot, but a lot of basketball is still left to play. Their next game comes Jan. 13 as they host the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Grizzlies have a few days off before traveling to Brooklyn, New York, to face the Nets on Jan. 14.
