Alternate uniforms are a great additional revenue stream for sports leagues (and, by extension, individual teams), which is why you are beginning to see more and more of them these days. Even if teams only wear these things once or twice, just their mere existence gives fans something team-associated to buy the next time they’re shopping.
Recently, the St. Louis Cardinals decided to get in on the fun. Check out the new jerseys they have unveiled (via St. Louis Post-Dispatch):
“Yes, it’s traditional. And if you ask me should we stay in that elite company of having home whites and road grays, I would say we should, but … ” President Bill DeWitt III said of the new-look jerseys. “Look at this (third) jersey. I see it and think, ‘We’ve got to wear that thing.’ ”
